Mountain House Flushing 川山甲 is a Sichuan restaurant tucked into the bustling heart of Flushing, offering a vibrant take on one of China’s spiciest and most flavorful regional cuisines. The space itself manages to feel casual yet thoughtfully designed, with enough room to accommodate groups as well as smaller parties, though it often fills up quickly on weekend evenings. Locals and adventurous eaters alike come here looking for an authentic Szechuan experience, complete with bold, fiery dishes balanced by attentive service that checks in on spice levels to match individual tastes.

The menu is a showcase of Sichuan’s diverse offerings—from the famously numbing MA-La boiled beef and Mapo tofu, to more unique plates like the Swing Pork Belly and the MA-La Dungeness crab with bones. Vegetarians won’t feel left out either, with options such as stir-fried pea shoots and sautéed long beans with eggplant providing lighter, fresh contrasts to the heavier, spice-forward meat dishes. Seafood lovers will appreciate preparations like the sea bass and house tomato fish stew, which bring a different texture to the meal.

Mountain House fits well in Flushing’s complex culinary scene as a spot where you can comfortably share plates and explore bold flavors with friends or family. The dining experience moves at a relaxed pace, though on busy Friday and weekend nights service can slow down a bit due to its popularity. Staff are known for friendly and clear communication, often using tablets to simplify ordering and ensuring dietary preferences or spice levels are noted carefully.

For those planning a visit, weekday evenings are a good bet for easier seating and a more laid-back vibe, whereas Friday and Saturday nights offer a livelier atmosphere that’s less about quiet dinner and more about sharing a feast. The space and service style encourage communal dining and conversation, a hallmark of many Sichuan meals, making it an appealing destination for anyone wanting to taste the region’s iconic boldness without sacrificing courtesy and attentiveness.

Beautiful restaurant and dining experience. Dishes and presentation are top notch. The food itself shines - particularly liked the dumplings in chili sauce and the grilled beef ribs. This is Szechuan so expect some spice though notably the waiter made sure to ask how spicy we wanted each dish. Service was a little slow but it was also a very very crowded Friday night. Otherwise I couldn’t have asked for more in the heart of Flushing.

I was able to walk in with three friends on a Monday evening and we were quickly seated. It was really easy to order using the tablet, and everything was double checked by our server. Our server Xiao Yu was super friendly and helpful, really exceptional service throughout the entire night! The food came out quick and everything was delicious and great to share with the table.

This is consistently delicious food for more adventurous American eaters, NY Times rates, and Fun! The food is often spicy but also deliciously so. Nothing I've eaten here had ever been bad. Period. Most food is Surprisingly delightful. The service is wonderful and fast. V they don't rush you out and the service is both helpful and not overwhelming. Our server Xiao Yu was particularly helpful and genuinely nice! Love this spot.

Literally every aspect of this restaurant is awesome. The atmosphere is beautiful, the staff were super helpful, and the food was amazing. We especially liked the swing pork belly, the ma-la braised beef, and for dessert we had the sesame rice balls which were INCREDIBLE. definitely will be coming back. We also appreciated that the waiter asked us if we wanted the food less spicy rather than assuming we would want it less spicy. We said we wanted full spice, but if you are someone who can’t handle spice, they can accommodate you.

My husband and I visited to celebrate our anniversary (12/21/25), and the experience was nothing short of fantastic. From the moment we arrived, the wait and service staff—especially CC and Hal—were incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive, offering spot-on recommendations throughout the meal. The portions were generous, and every one of the five dishes we ordered delivered bold, unapologetic spice and incredible flavor (this is definitely the place to go if you love heat!). From the double-cooked pork to the Szechuan chicken to the mapo tofu, each dish was cooked to absolute perfection. The staff truly went above and beyond to make our anniversary feel special, turning dinner into a genuinely magical celebration. We can’t wait to return.
